The first area Prince Pierre had to visit was the beautiful Black Forest. Here the Prince is greeted by a couple made from rolls of hay. They were impressive and quite helpful in directing Pierre to the famous
Black Forest Cuckoo Clock Trail.

In Triberg, Prince Pierre discovered the world's largest cuckoo clock. It was too large for the castle back in the United States.

In Hornberg he found these beautiful musical clocks. One was just right for taking a ride with a view...

Prince Pierre found clocks that had weather stations attached to them. The characters would let you know what sort of day it was going to be...

The Prince takes a break by a huge wooden wheel that helps to power a mill in the Black Forest.

Prince Pierre checks out a statue that represents the first Cuckoo Clock salesmen. Years ago these Black Forest artisans would carry their clocks on their backs from town to town to sell them...The way became known as the German Clock Route.

Prince Pierre familiarized himself with Germany's fastest train - ICE -. It travels at 320km/hour. (Almost 200 MPH)!
What a great way to travel!

Kevin's Uncle Achim is the regular "pilot" on this train and Pierre fell in love with the controls...

Prince Pierre visited the town of Freiburg/Breisgau.
Freiburg is famous for its
medical university.
Pierre loved the city! He found that it had a small town atmosphere with many old houses and gates like:

Prince Pierre found the architecture of the Cathedral and the Town Hall to be especially beautiful. He can see why the people love to live here.

Prince Pierre found the people were very concerned about the environment and use a lot of solar energy, car pooling, and an excellent public transportation system to avoid having too many cars in the city.

While visiting in the town of Haslach, Prince Pierre strolled by the City Hall. The artwork on the buildings added to the peacefulness of the town setting.
Around the corner from the City Hall, his walk took him through the Historic Town Center.

The Prince stepped inside the Old Silver Mine House. The decoration and architecture were magnificent. He even had the company of a friend as they took in the view of the town

Truly a peaceful setting...

The blonde hair reminded Pierre of an old friend, Rapunzel

The Prince's next stop was to visit the Black Forest Museum of Traditional Costumes.
Here the Prince learned about the traditional costumes from Gutach.

This has been a very warm Summer in Germany and the Prince was treated to a trip to Lake Constance. He traveled there on the Black Forest Railway. It has 39 tunnels!
Here on the lake Prince Pierre takes a boat to the island of Mainu. The island is owned by Count Lennart Bernadotte of Sweden.

While enjoy his trip on the lake, Prince Pierre passes by the town of of Meersburg and drops by to visit the Castle Mainau......arrow
Prince Pierre was amazed at the beautiful gardens around the castle. He made a note to tell his royal gardners about this trip.
Pierre could see why they called this place
"Flower-Island".
Kevin, Sandra, Ronja and Kim have a good time showing Prince Pierre one of the many flowered art works around the castle's garden.

Prince Pierre enjoys his last day in the Black Forest (Schwarzwald ) of Germany with his hosts:
Kevin, Sandra, Tatjana and the "ICE Pilot" Achim and his daughters Ronja and Kim.
He's treated to a wonderful Black Forest Vesper (lunch) and follows that with a restful time in a Black Forest tree before beginning his trip back home.
HRH Prince Pierre de la Ponde wishes to extend a most gratious thank you to Kevin and his family for being such wonderful host. His tour of the Black Forest region of Germany was both memorable and educational. The Prince can't wait to return home to Princess Lilly-Croakiss and Baby Seraphina to recount his adventures in Germany.
I wonder where the Prince will be off to next?
